Module 2: Good Night Moon

Book Cover:

Book Summary:  As a little bunny is about to go to sleep he says good night toe everything inside his room and outside too.   As the bunny goes through the different objects and things he sees… he says goodnight.

APA Reference:

Impressions:  I enjoy the details of the illustrations and think it is quite sweet to say goodnight to objects in a bedroom.  The text is simple but for young readers, it offers a chance to find each of the objects listed within the room.  It turns into a bit of a game and can let the reader compare the things in the bunny’s room versus the things they see in their own room (and outside too).

Professional Review:  “ Brown…believed that books should expose young children to the ‘here and now’ world of their own home surroundings.  Children need to hear about and see all the things that they feel comfortable with in  their own world.  So in Goodnight Moon, the mother and child say good night to all the familiar objects around them. Everything present in the great green room is part of a child’s real world and reflects Brown’s ‘here and now’ philosophy”

Library Use:  This classic story can be used to help children observe the objects and world around them.  The illustrations are very detailed, down to the clock on the table and references to other children’s stories and rhymes and can be used in different activities including observation games such as “I Spy”.
